Ideas. Do you know that I have met people who have never had an idea? It's true. I have, and they haven't. I can't tell you how boring my life would be if I didn't have ideas. I have good ones, bad ones, and some that just are. I remember some and forget others. I forget really great ones and write down really stupid ones. I act on really stupid ones and pass on some that I find out later would have been great. I think that to have a truely fruitful life you need ideas. They help keep the gears of creativity going and clean out the attic. In business you really have to be an idea machine. That's how you solve the problems that come up. If you, yourself, don't have the creativity to solve the problems, you better make sure that you have a tribe of highly skilled thinkers backing you up. Otherwise, you may as well go back to that old cubicle of yours, selling toilet paper. I'm sure that they left your name on the plaque.

Cash Only Please

When I say "Cash Only" I don't necessarily mean literally. Now you can use debit cards just like checks and some banks don't charge fees to do so. I do mean neither a lender or borrower be. Why? I know that's what you are taught in colleges. Borrow till it hurts. Debt runs the economy. Borrowing only helps the money lenders. Period. End of story. Ironic that those are the very people making such moronic statements is it not? Look, going into debt to buy a property at 16% interest can turn a $25,000 property into a nearly $45,000 debt. Can't you think of anything better to do with that extra $20,000? I can. That's an employee's wages for a year and a half. That's nearly another property of equal value. That a good pay raise for a better employee. It could be new equipment. That could buy a decent pickup. How about a vacation for the wife? Quite the wedding ring, wouldn't you say? Instead you just bought any one of those things for a money lender. Still think that going into massive debt is a good thing? Go cash only and leave the money lenders at home.

You Just Need The Right Bait

Business is like fishing. You need bait, line, and a good pole. The pole doesn't need to be anything  spectacular. An old branch will work as well as anything. I know there are anglers out there that will swear that their carbon fiber rod is better than a bamboo pole that has been handed down from father to son for 120 generations. They will swear that, even though it's never caught a single trout, that it's better than the branch that has just caught its 140th steel head. In the end it's not the pole that caught anything, it's the fisherman. The line you use has to be strong and dependable. To thin and it will snap when anything of size pulls on it. Really though it doesn't have to be anything to special. A shoestring will work if you need it to. Even tree roots can be used as line if you need then to. What makes the difference is one thing. Every good angler will tell you the same thing. The one crucial element to being a successful fisherman is, you guessed it, the bait. If you are using the wrong bait at the wrong time for the wrong type of fish you are after you aren't likely to catch anything. So, if you are looking for customers and you know that your product or service is good stay positive and change bait. What works for one type of customer will not work on others. What works at one time of day won't work at another. Keep trying. Getting customers is just like fishing. You just need the right bait.
